Resident Evil 2 HD confirmed
Capcom is finally remaking Resident Evil 2, something we’ve been desperate for ever since the studio recreated the original Resident Evil for Gamecube back in 2002.
2002. That’s almost two full console cycles ago.
While details on the project won’t be revealed for some time, it is only just entering active development, it is understood that it will be a complete remake of the original classic, built specifically for modern platforms.
“You’ve been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven’t been able to make it happen… until now!” Yoshiaki Hirabayashi in a reveal video. Hirabayashi will be producing Resident Evil 2 HD, he also tackled the next-gen conversion of Resident Evil HD that released earlier in the year.
“We’re pleased to confirm that Resident Evil 2 has been approved for development,” a Capcom rep told VideoGamer.
“As the title is only just starting its development cycle we unfortunately don’t have any additional information or assets to share at this time. However, for now we want our fans to know that we appreciate all the feedback and support we’ve received on this title. We’re looking forward to delivering this highly anticipated Resident Evil experience that fans have been waiting for.”
While no formats have been revealed as of writing, we expect to see this launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Don’t expect to see it for a while though, the studio will need to re-create a huge array of high-resolution assets and areas to get it next-gen ready. We expect to see this land towards the end of 2016 at the very earliest.
