PSN going offline next week

PSN will go offline for a brief period of time next week, Sony has announced.

Routine maintenance will take place from Tuesday, August 18 at 4.30am UK time until 6am that same morning.

Sony apologised for the inconvenience, but said that it was working hard to reduce the duration of these regular maintenance periods.

The last time Sony performed maintenance, the console was offline for 9 hours, so already there’s an improvement.

According to Sony, anybody who already has a PSN account can still sign in, play games and use most apps while the maintenance is being carried out.

Sony recommends activating your PS4 as your primary console before maintenance begins “for the best experience”.

Users will be unable to use Account Management, PlayStation Video and the PSN Store, however.

Downtime over Christmas led Sony to issuing free days of PlayStation Plus and 10% discount codes.
Sony recently announced the PS4 sold over two million consoles in the UK, passing the milestone faster than the PS2 did.
