Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is a reboot
When Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst was announced
there was some discussion on where in the timeline it would fit, with the option of it being a prequel being the most likely. Even we thought that was where Catalyst would fit when originally reporting on the release too. Turns out that such a conclusion was a mistake, with Mirror’s Edge Catalyst’s Design Director Erik Oeldahl saying the following to IGN.
“Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is a reboot. We basically took the things we really liked about the first game. Faith, first and foremost, the first-person free-running gameplay, and also the aesthetics, which we’ve built on, of course. But it’s a reboot.
We’re telling Faith’s origin story, so the events of the first game actually don’t really exist. Maybe they will at one time in the future.”
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will be releasing in February 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
